The following criteria are set for an admission:

  1. Students must meet the minimum standards for cumulative undergraduate grade point average and general portion of the Graduate Record Exam, GRE, as set by the Graduate School;
  2. Letters of reference from two persons qualified to evaluate potential for successful performance in a program of graduate study in public administration must be sent to the department;
  3. A"Cumulative Value Index" score of at least 50.

The following formula is employed in calculating the score on the "Cumulative Value Index." (Undergraduate Grade Point Average times 15) plus (the sum of the percentile scores on the verbal and quantitative portions of the GRE General exam
times .20) equals the Cumulative Value Index.

Students who meet the Graduate School minimums, but do not have a Cumulative Value Index score of a least 50, may be granted a probationary admission. The minimum condition for transfer from probationary admission status to clear admission status is the successful completion of at least nine hours of graduate course work with a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and with no more than one grade, regardless of the number of course credit hours, of "C" or lower. At least six hours of the first 12 hours must be in the common MPA core.
